Gerrick Taylor here, and today, I'm excited to share some essential tips on fertilizing your citrus trees, ensuring they thrive and produce the luscious, juicy fruits we all love.

Why Fertilization is Key for Your Citrus Trees

At Taylor's Landscape Supply, we understand that the secret to a healthy citrus tree lies in its roots – quite literally. Proper fertilization is not just about growth; it's about the tree's overall health, resilience, and fruit production. Whether you're growing oranges, lemons, or limes, the right fertilization approach can make all the difference.

Choosing the Right Fertilizer

When it comes to fertilizers, one size doesn't fit all. Citrus trees require a specific balance of nutrients. At our garden centers, both in Bluffton and Beaufort, we stock a variety of high-quality fertilizers perfect for citrus trees. These fertilizers are rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and essential micronutrients, ensuring your citrus trees get exactly what they need.

The Best Fertilizer Types and Application Frequency

We offer granular, liquid, and slow-release fertilizers, each with its unique benefits. Young trees, for instance, thrive with frequent, light applications of liquid fertilizer, while mature trees do better with less frequent, heavier applications of granular or slow-release types. Our expert team at Taylor's Landscape Supply is always on hand to advise you on the best choice for your trees.

Application Tips for Optimal Results

  • For Young Trees: Light and frequent – that's the mantra. This approach encourages strong root development without overwhelming the young tree.
  • For Mature Trees: Apply fertilizer to the drip line, where the roots are most active, for deeper nourishment.
  • Regular Watering: After fertilizing, water your trees well to help the nutrients reach the roots effectively.
  • Soil Testing: Unsure about your soil's nutrient content? We can help you with soil testing at our Bluffton and Beaufort locations.

I added a red lime from Taylor’s to my citrus collection two years ago. It’s doing fantastic and I love the flavor or the limes in drinks, marinades, marmalades, and baked goods.
My problem is what to do about citrus psyllids, especially when my neighbor does nothing to control his. 🤯. I guess we’re just stuck with the pesky things.
